Best 4K Gaming PC Build 2019

The PC has become the main gaming platform in the past, and the most interesting titles that have shifted the boundaries of graphics in video games have appeared on the PC. More than 10 years ago, on the PC, a title appeared that will forever change the way we look at gaming computers and PC gaming, and that is, of course, Crysis. Even today, while constructing a new configuration through a joke, we ask: “But can it run Crysis?”, Which is proof of the impact of this Crytek’s title on PC gaming.

Since the release of Crysis on the PC, graphically more impressive titles have been introduced to demonstrate the latest technologies, but none has succeeded in “breaking” the computers in the same way that Crysis did. Instead of focusing on a particular title, it switched to VR and 4K gaming, and today the goal of the PC Gamer is to launch as many titles as possible with the highest quality graphics on a 4K resolution. Although we are talking about increasing resolution, the implementation of advanced technologies and poor optimization make the launch of certain titles in a 4K big challenge that requires the best hardware. We joined the members of the “PC Master Race” in the march to 4K gaming with the best gaming configuration in 2019.

Technology: Road To the Best

On the market, we have an extremely wide selection of computer components, so separating the best ones for our configuration is not an easy task. Sometimes there are differences in shades, but in selecting the best components and these tiny differences are extremely important, so we have carefully selected the very best components for our top gaming configuration.

Housing - NZXT H500

A frequently neglected component that can have a significant impact on the thermal performance of a computer's casing. Although most customers are taking aesthetics, we are looking for balance of performance and aesthetics, choosing the NZXT H500, mid-dimension case, great industrial design, top quality design and great thermal performance. NZXT is strategically positioned on ventilation holes in this housing so that, although it looks quite closed, it offers a very good airflow.

CPU/Processor - Intel Core i7 9700K

We have spent the most time choosing the processor because depending on the title of the processor performance can vary greatly. The ultimate choice is Intel's Core i7 9700K, eight physical core core 3.6GHz core processor and a maximum Turbo clock of up to 4.9GHz. We have chosen this processor because of its performance, which in most titles exceeds the performance of AMD processors, as well as the performance of Intel's own Core i9 processors. Graphics Card - ASUS RTX 2080 Ti Turbo

Nvidia surprised us with the parallel output of the standard and Ti models RTX 2080. Irrespective of the game, Nvidia's new RTX 2080 Ti card is dominated by performance and is therefore a logical choice for our configuration. In the limited offer of models on our market we chose the ASUS Turbo version of this card, primarily because of its blower cooler. Although enthusiasts often avoid tablets with blower coolers, we have chosen a blower cooler to achieve a slight negative pressure inside the chassis and from it as efficiently emptied all the warm air.

SSD - Samsung 970 Evo NVMe M.2 500 GB

Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of SSDs and their 970 Evo has proved to be one of the fastest disks in our testing. We opted for a 500GB capacity model to save a few of the games that are bigger than the operating system and SSD programs, so they need to have a large capacity drive to save them.

Power Supply - FSP Hydro GE 650 W

The backbone of every computer is power supply and we can not save money on it so we have chosen the FSP Hydro GE 650 W, fully modular power supply with 80+ Gold energy efficiency certification. RAM/Memory - G.Skill Trident Z RGB 2 x 8 GB 2400 MHz

The operating memory is an important part of the gaming configuration and is of prime importance to it. We have chosen G.Skill Trident Z RGB primarily because of the RGB illumination, which is an indispensable part of the gaming configuration, but because of its excellent reputation and high reliability of G.Skill memory. In almost every configuration we use G.Skill Flare X memory, and for this configuration we decided to go a step further with Trident Z RGB.

Fans - Thermaltake Riing 12 RGB and Thermaltake Pure Plus 12 RGB

When selecting a fan, our priority was our dedicated design and RGB illumination. For the needs of a water cooler radiator, we have chosen Riing 12 RGB fans with high static pressure, making them ideal for use on water radiators and for ventilation purposes, we selected Pure Plus 12 fans with very high airflow, makes it ideal for our needs.

CPU Cooler - NZXT Kraken X52

When selecting a fan, our priority was our dedicated design and RGB illumination. For the needs of a water cooler radiator, we have chosen Riing 12 RGB fans with high static pressure, making them ideal for use on water radiators and for ventilation purposes, we selected Pure Plus 12 fans with very high airflow, makes it ideal for our needs.

Accessories - Thermaltake Pacific Lumi Plus RGB

Apart from top performance, we have also devoted attention to the aesthetics of our computer. RGB illumination is an inevitable addition to every gaming computer, and it is also easiest to add with the LED strip. Thermaltake's Pacific Lumi Plus tapes have high modularity, software control and magnet attachment, which is ideal for users who are undecided and who often want to change the computer's lighting configuration.

HDD - Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM006

In order to save the games that grow from day to day, we have selected Seagate's Barracuda 2TB hard drive. This HDD has 7200 RPM speeds, which will dramatically shorten game time loading and accelerate access to other files. Seagate is one of the most reliable hard disk manufacturers and this disk is a great choice for mass storage.

From screwdrivers to afterburner, the process of settling our configuration was long and thorny but if you really want the best, you have to do the same.

ASUS RTX 2080 Ti Turbo

The world of PC gaming grows day by day, which is not surprising since the PC as the platform first gets access to the latest technologies so if you want to experience it, you have to invest in a gaming PC. The technology that marked the year 2018 is real-time ray tracing, which has enabled real reflection. So far the games have been based solely on the screen-space reflection, the old technology that takes the content we see and simply displays it unobtrusively to create the illusion of real reflection.

New and best
When choosing components, our goal was simple: find the components that will allow us the best gaming performance. Last year, a new generation of Nvidia graphics cards, the GeForce RTX 2000 series, came in the market, which besides the classic growth performance also brought two exciting technologies: real-time ray tracing and DLSS, unfortunately, only real-time ray tracing experienced implementation in just one game – Battlefield V. In the processor market, we got the AMD Ryzen 2000 series and the Intel Core 9000 series, with a marked increase in gaming performance, which made it even more difficult to choose the processor as AMD became a competitive gamer against Intel.

Cooling: Our overclocked processor for optimal working temperatures requires water cooling, in our case it is the NZXT Kraken X52.

Our primary objective was to achieve the best gaming performance, but what exactly does it mean? First of all, we wanted to make a configuration that will allow only one graphics card to play the AAA title with the highest quality print quality at 4K resolution. Up to the RTX 2000 series, playing the AAA title at the highest 4K resolution was only possible with multiple SLI-equipped graphics cards on Nvidia cards or Crossfire on AMD graphics cards. The problem of using SLI and Crossfire technology is limited support for the same.

Gaiming: To see what our configuration can play, we can have up to eight titles.

To the very limits
Although the components we have chosen the best on the market, there are unused potential that we have to discover. When overclocking the processor, we aimed at achieving a 5 GHz frequency at all cores, which is 400 MHz rise compared to the factory frequency. We started testing with undervolting which, unfortunately, did not produce fruit because we lost this time on silicon lottery and only got the average i7 9700K, which for a stable 5GHz overclock asked for 1.4V, more than we would love but it was not dangerous high voltage that could affect the longevity of the processor.

Inputs and Outputs: In order to connect all the latest devices, you need to select a chip with the top chipset.

The graphics card was much more compliant with overclocking and with 112% of the power target allowed the +200 MHz offset core, resulting in a maximum frequency of 2075 MHz, while the memory allowed +600 MHz offset, which is the expected result for GDDR6 memory. Asus is known for its rather mild ventilation curves on its Turbo cards, so we’ve changed it so we can cool the overclocked card effectively and achieve a good noise and performance ratio.

The Results

Ultimately, we succeeded in achieving our goal and almost all titles were launched in 4K resolution with high framerate games.

The games that fall below 60 frames per second are Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed Odyssey, and Battlefield V with DXR on the ultra preset. But even those headlines were not far behind 60 frames per second, so we could easily adjust them with a bit of change in these games. The greatest improvements in framerate can be achieved by reducing anti-aliasing, which is not necessary for 4K gaming. For Shadow of the Tomb Raider we used 4X SMAA, which needed 1080p and 1440p, but for 4K the 2X SMAA was more than enough to eliminate the sharp edges. Unfortunately, graphics cards are still not level at which you can easily set all settings to the maximum and worry free to play, so some titles are still looking for exploration and gaming settings to achieve a steady 60 frames per second. We are happy with the temperatures our configuration has reached because during a 20-minute stress test with simultaneous processor and graphics card processor temperature reached 71 degrees while the graphics card reached 77 degrees. Performance was lower during gameplay, so the processor temperature was 69 degrees while the graphics card reached 74 degrees during Battlefield V, which is very good at considering the fact that both the i7 9700K and the RTX 2080 Ti components have a high thermal output .
